Michael Galos – COC

At a young age, Michel or simply Mich has already been selfless towards other people. His bold dream to make a difference in the society through the nobility of teaching has brought him so much motivation to strive harder. At the age of 6, he dreamt of becoming a teacher so he can teach his neighbor who can’t go to school.
But It wasn’t an easy journey for him.

Although he was an achiever in elementary school, getting a high school, or even a college diploma in a private institution like PHINMA-Cagayan de Oro College with its already low fees, was an ordeal for him and his parents who were earning P126.00 weekly then. But with his pure talent and good will, he made it through high school and college with the help of a scholarship from PHINMA.

What’s more amazing is that he was able to send his sister in college and see her graduate using the monthly stipend he received from PHINMA COC as a presidential scholar and his earnings from doing hosting stints back then.

Now, Mich pays it forward by living his dream of becoming a catalyst of change by being a program head of the SHS department. He’s not just able to teach one neighbor, but inspire an entire class to make the lives of other people better, too.

Arnel Bauzon, tells us his struggle in using his hard-earned money given that he is the only child in their family who was able to go to college. His parents, both 64 years old, can no longer engage in strenuous work.

During his College days, Arnel shared that he makes sure to spend the money he earns on more important things, that at times, he used to fail to join educational trips or seminars even if he wanted to or even bond with my classmates and friends.

Arnel is among our thousands of Handog Kaibigan scholars across the network.

So he can further continue his college education, he first applied as a service crew in a famous fast food chain. With his dedication at work and his natural talent, he was promoted as a marketing representative. In spite of his hectic schedule both at work and school, Arnel was able to earn his spot in the Dean’s List in the previous semester.

Arnel currently works as a professor in PHINMA UPang College of Urdaneta and is making lives better by sharing his knowledge.

“I came from a humble family in Anilao. My father is a driver, and my mother is a housewife. This is the reason why I continued teaching and inspiring my students. I want them to see the importance of education, and how it can help them improve their lives in the future. We do not have to be rich [and famous] to inspire people. An ordinary person with a beautiful heart and mind can be an inspiration, too.”

Vicente “Vic” Bilan has been living this mission with us for 6 years now. In addition to his post as the program head for languages in PHINMA-University of Iloilo‘s Basic Education Department, he also actively coaches students in journalism and news casting competitions, many of whom are winning as champions.

Outside his commitment to teaching in PHINMA UI, Vic selflessly devotes himself to the community as an active member of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) – Regatta Chapter, an organization that empowers young people to create positive change in the society. As a matter of fact, he is representing JCI Philippines for the International Public Speaking Competition which will be held in Taiwan this June 2016, after winning the national level in Dagupan City.
