Raising the Employability Quotient with Customer Service Training

PHINMA University of Iloilo (UI) is collaborating with WNS Cares Foundation (WCF), the CSR arm of WNS Global Services Philippines, Inc. The goal of the partnership is to bridge the skills gap and help students become more employable through online training and mentoring relevant to the Business Process Management industry.

WNS is a business process management company that combines deep industry knowledge with technology, analytics, and process expertise to co-create innovative, digitally-led transformational solutions with over 400 clients across various industries.

WCF has launched its first MakeMyCareer@WCF (MMC) Program in the Philippines, the Customer Interactive Services (CIS) Training, on June 2021 with PHINMA UI. This program is also being implemented in other WCF locations such as India, South Africa and Sri Lanka.  For one month, UI Business Administration students went through a combination of self-learning and instructor-led sessions with mentorship. Currently, there are more than 100 finishers; 12 are currently working at different local companies while 4 were successfully hired by WNS Iloilo.

“We shall empower economically-challenged learners and raise their employability quotient. Together with PHINMA UI, we will equip students with the necessary domain knowledge (finance, retail, telecom, legal, medical, IT) and soft skills,” said Puneet Dikshit, WNS Philippines Managing Director.

“I was struggling a lot due to the pandemic. Also, I was shy when interacting with people. I did not know where and how I can pursue my career. My MMC-CIS journey has helped me a lot to overcome my doubts and fine-tune my social skills. Thank you, WCF, for mentoring me! The training prepared me for my chosen career. I am now more confident in dealing with clients,” Sheila Mae Lacuit stated. Ms. Lacuit is a BSBA 2022 graduate and currently a WNS Customer Service Associate.

The MMC Program aims to provide industry-relevant training to improve the employability of UI students. Another training is set to be launched for Finance and Accounting students this year. These training programs with WCF bode well for Iloilo City, currently home to around 100 Information Technology and Business Process Management (IT-BPM) companies.

Both PHINMA University of Iloilo and WNS Cares Foundation are working hand in hand together in fulfilling PHINMAEd’s mission of making lives better through education.
